It’s getting towards that time of year where party invites are starting to mount up in my email so I thought it would be the perfect time to share some of my favourite go-to outfits to give you some style inspiration for any Christmas events you may have. I went through a phase a few years ago where I’d just started to get invited to press events, so every time I got an invite I bought a new dress. However since then my wardrobe has started overflowing with formalwear, so I’ve been making sure I wear what I already own instead of buying new, and some clear favourites have emerged.

If you haven't already heard from the 15,000 times I've previously mentioned it, last year I was lucky enough to go on my first ever cruise. Now it may have had something to do with the anxiety of never travelling abroad before or the fact that it was booked last minute, but when I heard "no luggage limit" I ran with it, and ended up taking THREE suitcases! Yes, I know that was excessive and, I'll be honest, one of them didn't even get unpacked. My room attendant looked at me like I was mad when he knocked on the door to tell me my suitcases had arrived. So since the phrase "pack light" isn't in my vocabulary, I thought it might be interesting to look at some of the things I took but never used  and hopefully it inspires you to pack a little lighter than I did! Just to clarify I went on a cruise around the Mediterranean, so this only really applies if you're going to hotter destinations. This was going to be a "ten things..." type of post but apparently I'm paranoid about having creature comforts with me, because after several days I've still not managed to think of 10 things I didn't use - oops.

Summer Outfit Favourites: My Top 3

I can't believe it's nearly September! I feel like every year someone pipes up and says "This year has gone so fast" but this time it's me saying that. I honestly don't know where the time has gone - it still feels like we're in July but instead we've already had the balloon fiesta, my birthday is long gone, I've graduated uni and everyone is harping on about how excited they are for Autumn. To be honest I absolutely love summer so I intend to hold on for it as long as possible, and what better to way than to look at all of the outfits you're sick of seeing on my social media? I think it's pretty evident that I had a few favourite pieces this season, so I thought it might be nice to have a run through my summer style.

Why I Think Chloe Bags are Overrated

If you’ve been reading The Owlet for a while you’ll know that I might not have the bank balance for it, but I definitely have the taste for luxury. There’s a long running discussion in my house where Dad says he would always rather save for a luxury watch, which is when I point out that you can’t use a watch to carry your belongings, so I think it’s pretty clear to see where I get my designer penchant from.

If you don’t know who Chloe is, they’re a mid-range designer most well known for their luxury bags. They seem to have exploded onto the scene from nowhere over the last few years despite the fact that they were actually founded in 1952, with See by Chloe’s ready-to-wear (i.e. off the shelf purchases) line being added to the brand in 2001.

February Fashion Favourites

So in case you haven't already noticed (seriously, how have you not?),  I've been absolutely loving talking about plus size fashion recently. Over the last few months I've started to write about what I really enjoy and I love hearing that I've inspired other curvy girls to be confident too. However, there's been a distinct lack of outfit posts on my Instagram recently, and that's entirely because I've gotten obsessed with a few pieces that I've worn almost every day.

Dress For Who You Are

I've got a bit of morning motivation for you today, and it's something that has taken me a long time to learn but not too long to master. 

I think, when you're a more curvy girl, there's a temptation to be a little "aspirational" when shopping,  especially if you're close to the boarder like me. If you're a size 18, there's always the temptation to think "I can fit in normal clothes", "I can shop in places like Primark" or things like that, but by trying to fit in to "normal" clothes you're actually doing yourself a dis service.

My Favourite Winter Fashion Accessory

It's February!!! We are officially out of the slump month, but to be honest other than having a lot of uni work to do, January's not been much of a slump at all.

If you've seen me anywhere on social media, there's been two jackets that I have worn over the last few months in basically every photo. It seems that recently, bomber jackets have been everything, but not so much for me.

When I was at Bath Christmas Market in December I came across a small (permanent) shop selling coats. I've never noticed them before but they had a display outside and a cape caught my eye. It was love at first sight, so I tried it on despite thinking I would look like Little Red Riding Hood's fat cousin. Oh how wrong can I be? 

Why Are Mermaids So Massive?

You've seen the shell bags and repetitive "25 things every mermaid needs" lists on Buzzfeed, your Instagram is full of shells and the shops are full of shiny things, but where the hell did the sudden obsession with mermaids come from? That question has been driving me mad for quite a while so I decided to investigate.

In 2014 the Daily Mail ran an article about the yet-to-be-a-trend "mermaid fitness classes". This is where regular land-dwellers can wriggle into a scuba mermaid tail and try not to drown while working out and (attempt to) look majestic while doing so. However, it wasn't until the Huffington Post caught onto it in Summer 2015 that the internet blew up and the whole world went mermaid mad. 

Seriously - what would we do without Buzzfeed and the Huff to tell us what we should and shouldn't like?

From there just watch as the internet and all your favourite shopping outlets blew up, producing everything and anything mermaid related. Even Christian jumped on the bandwagon with a mermaidy pair of loubs, just in case you've got a spare £1500 burning a hole in your pocket.

One trend that's appeared on the side of all the mermaid related madness is that anything iridescent is cool (not that it's ever not been cool in my book, but that's just me!). If you're wanting a more subtle nod to your mer-folk obsession, the internet has everything from clutch bags to coffee cups covered in the shiny-scale like appearance and, if you have over £3000 spare, even Chanel jumped on the holographic bandwagon. You're welcome.

So if you've been a closet Disney fan your entire adult life, rejoice. Your childhood is officially trendy again! Along with the entire 90s, chokers, dodgy grey lipstick.... well at least the mermaid trend is pretty.

Making Floral Crowns at House Of Fraser!

With two videos in under a week, this YouTube thing is getting to be a bit of a habit! Today I wanted to share with you my trip to the Crown and Glory Pop Up Shop in Bristol - a few bloggers were invited to make our own flower crowns on Thursday night ahead of the weekend's event.

We started with a few drinks while we looked over the variety of flowers to choose from. I didn't really know where to start but the advice was just to grab the flowers that jumped out at you.

I did originally plan to make a summer themed crown- either with bright colours or pastel colours, or a mix of both. But putting that aside I decided to take their advice, so I just went for what I liked the look of. This, however, meant that I did my usual and gravitated towards my favourite colour, and everything turned out purple! I think the issue was that there were so many to choose from- there were around 20-30 jars with every colour you could imagine- so it became impossible to pick. As I was talking, the lady making the crowns said that some of the flowers were vintage, which I think is such a lovely idea as it adds to the idea of the crown being one of a kind even more than if it was all new.

Once we had chosen our flowers, we gave the pot to one of the lovely people putting the crowns together, who arranged the flowers in a way that made it look well chosen, rather than the mess I'd made by choosing all the colours I loved! While we all chose to go for a headband (bloggers are extravagant creatures!) you could also choose to make a hairband if you preferred something more subtle.

The finished result was something that I would not have chosen in a million years, but because I chose the flowers I liked then made it, I came away with something completely different but that I absolutely loved! It was such a great evening, and I'm really pleased with my new floral crown!

I hope you haven't minded all the Bristol Fashion Week spam too much but so much happened that it's taken me a few posts to get through it all! Today I wanted to talk to you about the Marks and Spencer blogging party.

This was one of the first proper blogger parties I'd been to which was way too exciting!

The event was a preview to show off their spring/summer fashion (which, if you don't have time to read the post, was absolutely gorgeous) and some of the beauty brands they stock in store.

First of all, I loved the trends that were set out at the party. I was really surprised by how individual they were-  I felt like maybe they'd gone away from current trends just a little, which was interesting, but they'd done a great job of tying this in with some of the current trends like bright colours and mixed prints.

This green print seemed to be everywhere. It's not something I would personally wear as the colour isn't my favourite but the print is beautiful and I think it could be gorgeous if worn the right way. They had a few lighter floral prints which I thought were gorgeous, which were much more my thing.

When we walked in we were greeted with food and drinks from their new summer picnic range (literally this would be the poshest picnic ever).

They had a few bits of summer home and garden decor out which was super cute too! We then got to wander round, have hand massages, a manicure and look at the beauty and fashion.

It's no secret that I've been crushing over the Rosie for Autograph collection since it came out. They eyeshadow palettes are stunning, as are the lipsticks and the strobe cream.... I just need it all, ok?

The thing that really surprised me was seeing Barry M and Bourjois. I've always seen M&S as the place to get premium beauty products, like with Debenhams and John Lewis where you can buy Pixi, Emma Hardie and Glam Glow. It just doesn't seem quite right them stocking more affordable brands, but I can definitely see the logic in it.

On the way out we were given a goody bag which had some amazing brands in like L'Occitane and the Phillip Kingsley Hair Elasticiser which I've been wanting to try for ages. 

I think it's fair to say I'm hooked on attending blogger events now; it's so nice meeting people like me that understand #BloggerProblems. I definitely want to go to more! Let me know what you've been up to this week in the comments below.

What I Wore: Bristol Fashion Week

So today I wanted to talk about Fashion Week again (mostly because I'm an idiot and didn't include this on my post about the event, but there we are- extra content for you). You may have seen over on my Facebook page that I was included in a round up of what bloggers were wearing to fashion week from the mall.

Now it's a well known fact (or it should be!) that I literally never dress up, and for me this is being a bit dressed up.

My top is from Primark. I think it was about £8 and I absolutely love it. I've loved seeing the off the shoulder trend floating around recently, I think it's a great look and makes an outfit look much more styled but takes 0 effort. I also love the pattern of this- like a lot of people, I'm not brave enough to wear obviously bright colours, despite talking about them a lot. The flowers are bright yellow, but being on a white background they recede into the fabric so they don't stand out so much. 

I paired this with my old faithful Converses (yes, I do wear these with everything!) and my trusty black jeans from Marks and Spencer, but I wear those with pretty much everything. Super comfy and goes with most outfits.

The star of my outfit really is this beautiful bag. It looks so expensive, but its actually £10 from Primark. I love the nude tones- such a brilliant lighter alternative to my safe black handbag for summer. The only issue is that it came with a canvas strap which I couldn't stand, but this was removable so I took it off and swapped it for the strap on my grey handbag which looks like it was meant to be sold with my Primark bag. 

As you may be able to tell, I'm a Primark girl at heart....

I'm lazy, so I wore the same jewellery as I did to the Bloggers Hangout in London last week. Gold bracelets from Primark - £3 and my silver bracelet that Mum and Dad gave me for my 18th birthday. I still managed to make my pink nails from Monday last so I didn't change the polish.

I then wore this flower garland which I also wore at the Bloggers Hangout, which was again from Primark for £3. I know they've been everywhere over the last few years but they really are an amazing way to add a more dressy and more summery feel to a plain outfit.

So today I have somewhere awesome for you to follow me to. Bristol Fashion Week is something I've attended every year since I was young with my mum, but this year I was invited to attend as a blogger and I was so excited it's insane (you may have been able to tell from all the spring trends posts!)

When you walk into the pavilion ( a huge marquee outside the mall in the carpark) you're greeted with complimentary drinks and cakes which this year were on the theme of a summer picnic.

There were A LOT of different scenes and they all kind of revolved around the same few trends, so allow me to spam you with a load of photos and talk about a few trends while I'm at it.

They opened the show with a "Whites" scene. Basically lots of white, lots of lace. Kind of what you'd expect for summer.

We then saw three scenes which I'll mix together- floral prints, romantic clothes and boho. Lots of words, I know but I'll break it down for you.

Floral: Anything with lots of flowers like above

Romantic: Think lots of floaty fabrics and pastel colours

Boho: More floaty fabrics and floral patterns but throw in some long skirts for good measure.

Need more inspiration?

We then saw something completely different. Unlike previous years, I loved all the styles that were sent down the catwalk - would they all suit me and would I be brave enough to try them? No, but they're still nice to look at. The only thing that bothers me (and I can see why they did this so it doesn't become "samey") is that the similar styles are put as far away from each other as possible. I understand why, but having a denim/street theme so close to a romantic scene just makes my head hurt.

Anyway, this one is all about denim and street style. All denim everything. I love dungarees and would love to sport a pair but for a girl with a little bit of tummy, I'll stick with my pinafore dresses for now! However, I do love me a bit of a denim, and if you do too then here's one way to style it.

Now this one was a bit lost on me. I don't really know where this style was coming into a particular scene but I don't care because I 100% know that I need that dress in my life. It's from Warehouse, if you're as obsessed with it as me!

The stripes were gorgeous too. They had a whole scene dedicated and I saw a gorgeous striped jumpsuit. No way I could wear it but still beautiful. If you want to see how to wear stripes then your wish is my command!

Finally, I want to talk about bright colours. The thing I love about Bristol Fashion Week is that it's normally a watered down version of the main spring trends, meaning it's much easier to wear than the things you see on a high fashion runway. Arguably, this is probably the only trend I wasn't taken with. It's much less toned down, so it needs a little more toning down before I'd be happy to wear bright colours out. Bristol Fashion Week is an amazing event, and something I've always loved attending. The trends are paired down to make it wearable, the models enjoy themselves (smiling and dancing rather than a stone faced stomp) and this shows on the catwalk, and they do a "real model makeover" where they help a member of the public increase their confidence by giving them a makeover.

So in my last travel blog I said I'd split it into two parts instead of having a tremendously long post- todayI bring you part two of my London trip: the Blogger's Tea Party!

This was my first ever blog event so I was really nervous! It was at the pop up patio in Finsbury Square. I absolutely love the venue- it's like a little conservatory in the middle of a park, and inside is super cosy.

Now before we get into talking about the event, I would just like to say how beautiful our surroundings were! Click the photo to see it bigger- I promise it's worth it!

Basically the blogger's tea party was a place for us to hang out and meet other bloggers, but we were also introduced to some great brands and had the chance to meet and talk to them.

The brands there were as follows:

The Cocoa Den - Chocolate

The brands that really stood out to me were The Cocoa Den (of course, I do love chocolate!), Just Bee and MeadHo.

Cocoa Den-

The Cocoa Den offers courses and qualifications, makes amazing truffles and these incredibly decorations. I won't lie- it's the pineapple and the deer head that caught my attention, but the truffles tasted amazing and the owner is so lovely it's insane!!

Just Bee-

I love the idea of this. It came from a third generation bee keeper. It's spring water with honey and ginger in it. I normally don't like honey or ginger but I thought I can't write about it if I've not tried it (oh the things I do for you!) but I actually loved it! Super tasty and it also comes with blueberry and apple. Yum! Also, the lady I was talking to was absolutely lovely and you could tell they really believed in their product, which is a great bonus!

Mead Ho!

Now talking of things I don't like-  I don't like beer or ale or really anything that isn't cider (I'm Bristolian- forgive me!). So if you put honey and beer together, it should be awful, right? Uhh, apparently not...

Despite not liking beer or honey, honey beer is surprisingly good. It's made with mead, and I won't insult your intelligence by attempting to explain that (if Adam was reading over my shoulder now I'd get an essay on it!) but it's Latvian and the only mead beer sold in the country. The owner was lovely, and a little mad just like me! With wood pinched from her dad and a randomly found skull to complete the Scandinavian experience, the beer tastes great and is worth checking out.

Now there's two things I loved about this event- first of all, I loved that it was all small brands and it was about helping them to get their name out there. Secondly, I loved the idea of meeting over the bloggers. I say the idea, because this didn't really happen. Perhaps it's something to do with being blogger that it's just easier to talk through a keyboard than actually talking to someone in person, but despite being in a room full of bloggers, no one spoke to each other and it was really disappointing. I was also a little disappointed because it said tea party/ Mad Hatter themed (you know from my photographic project how much I was excited for this!) but this wasn't evident at all. Don't get me wrong, it was still a nice event, but it wasn't worth travelling to if you're not from London.

Now we come to the awkward bit- if you couldn't tell I HATE having photographs taken of me, and I don't like how I look so feel loved. I'm putting my face on the internet for your entertainment!

So this is what I wore:

The dress is a 50s style which I got from Amazon for £25 but I'm wearing it without the petticoat underneath so it sits a little more flat.

I wore it with a cropped black cardigan from M&S - cropped so it fitted better with the vintage style of the dress, but really it was just too cold not to wear it and it was the best I had!

I wore it with a set of three gold bracelets that I got from Primark for £3, and the bracelet that my parents had made for me for my 18th birthday.

I then wore this with my trusty Converses because I just don't do heels.

Oh, I also wore a flower garland in my hair (forgot about that one!) which I got from Primark for £3 but if, like me, you're super lazy and don't like leaving the house very often then there's a similar one here which is even cheaper.

I don't have a decent photo of my makeup but I wore this gold/copper eyeshadow look and a full coverage base with a rosy lip, using:
