5 Hair & Beauty Tools and Products to Pack on Your Next Trip

Don't Leave Home without these Hair and Beauty Essentials!

When packing for a trip there are so many things to think about. Beyond the typical list including your passport, toothbrush and medication, there are a few beauty products that you can bring to make your travels easier, more comfortable and keep you looking your best while you’re on your adventures.

Serum with SPF

When you’re travelling you don’t have a routine, which makes it easy to forget part or all of your skincare routine. This is often to blame for your skin’s texture suddenly taking a nose dive while you’re away. Whenever I’m travelling I like to cut down my skincare routine as much as possible and look for multitasking products. When I’m at home I use a vitamin C serum which makes skin extra sensitive to the sun - when I’m travelling I swap this for a moisturising serum that contains SPF to protect my skin and keep it hydrated when I’m outdoors all day. My personal favourites are the Hello Sunday SPF 45 Serum or the Olay Moisturiser and Serum Duo with SPF 20 - obviously it doesn’t offer as much protection, but it’s much more hydrating which is something I always struggle with when I’m travelling.

Hair Mask/Oil

Just like you may need to moisturise your skin more when you’re travelling (especially in a warmer country), your hair is also likely to get dehydrated - especially if you’re swimming in chlorinated pools or the sea. If you’re going on a cruise ship, all of the water is treated sea water, so even washing your hair can cause damage and dryness. By the end of a two week trip hair can begin to look frazzled and feel impossible to tame, and this is because it’s gotten damaged. If I’m going on a longer trip I like to take a travel size hair mask to keep my hair looking and feeling its best. I tend to have a few relaxed days per trip where I might spend some time relaxing in the sun and doing some writing, and this is the time where I like to put a mask in my hair, throw it in a clip and let it sit for an hour or two for maximum results. My personal favourite is the Aussie Supercharged Moisture mask - it smells great, it works well and the packaging is ideal for travel. I also love a hair oil or serum to protect the ends in between washes - I apply this every few days, but this will vary depending on how dry your hair is. My current favourite is the John Frieda Weightless Wonder.

Hairdryer

When I’m at home I try to limit the amount of heat I use on my hair and let it dry naturally, but when I’m travelling my schedule is usually jam-packed so I don’t have time to let it air dry and I want to look my best. If I’m travelling for more than a few days I always pack a hairdryer, and it has to be a good one! I know that a lot of people are content with using a travel hair dryer, but my hair is too long and too thick for travel dryers to do anything. Like with my serum, I prefer to go for a multitasking tool like these from mdlondon. I’m always short of time when I’m away so being able to dry and style my hair at the same time with one tool is a game changer.

Great Quality Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is an essential for travel - when you’re busy, out in the sun or swimming before dinner, your hair might just need a quick boost of freshness. Dry shampoo is one of those things that you don’t need to spend a lot of money on, but you’ll notice the difference if you do. I actually use the “Girlz Own” brand from Tesco at £1.40 per bottle when I just want a quick refresh at home, but when I’m travelling I always switch to Colab dry shampoo. When you spend a little bit more on dry shampoo you’ll find that it doesn’t leave any residue and your hair is left feeling completely fresh, rather than just refreshed with a powdery texture.

Nail File

I know this is a really boring item to remind you about, but I forget to pack a nail file a solid 50% of the time and I always regret it! It’s one of those things that you wouldn’t think about until you need it, so it’s better to get ahead and pack one just in case.

There are so many small items that I pack for longer adventures, but these are the items that I absolutely can’t live without on a trip! What are your travel beauty essentials?
