Review: The Drifters Girl at Bristol Hippodrome

Hey Owlets,

This week we were lucky enough to be invited back to the Bristol Hippodrome to watch The Drifters Girl. Featuring all of the biggest hits, you'd be forgiven for assuming that the performance simply tells the tale of The Drifters but you'd be wrong. While The Drifters story is told along the way, the woman propelling them to stardom is the hero of this show.
The Drifters Girl recounts all of the trials and tribulations that the band (and their management) endured on the way to the top. Told by a cast of just 6 (yes really!), it's a hugely ambitious production featuring some incredibly talented actors. The music, particularly the voice of Carly Mercedes Dyer who plays Faye Treadwell, will blow you away - although you might find yourself a little lost at times.

With so much to fit in to the performance and such a limited cast, some of the finer details get missed and you may find yourself playing catch up while you try to work out the timeline of events. While the show is confusing at times, it doesn't matter too much when the music is great, the atmosphere is incredible and everyone is singing along.
The Drifters Girl is a mind-blowing story told very well, and the soundtrack will have you tapping your feet and humming for days. Maybe just read up on The Drifters and their backstory before you go to save the confusion!
I'd give it a 4/5 and would very much recommend seeing it if you're a fan of the music. The show is at Bristol Hippodrome for two more nights, but it's on tour across the country this year. Take a look and book tickets from £13 here.

Love and Feathers,
