Hey Owlets,
2020 has thrown a lot our way, and personally it's made life as a blogger pretty difficult. If you follow me on Instagram you'll already know but, in case you missed it, I announced I wouldn't be doing my usual gift guide. There's a lot of different reasons for this, but it wasn't an easy decision and I've really missed writing about my favourite products. I've decided to get in the spirit of 2020 and do things differently. I can't afford to buy all of the products to review in my gift guide, so instead I thought it might be interesting for you to see what's on my wish list. Hopefully if you're wondering what to get someone you care about, or you're looking to treat yourself after a hard year, then this might provide some inspiration. You're going to have to bear with me for the first few items - I did say this was an ultimate wish list, so while there are some more affordable items on here, there's also a few things that I can't necessarily afford but would absolutely love!!
Well, don't say I didn't warn you! Like the rest of the internet, Animal Crossing has been my saviour this year. But unlike so many others who were playing New Horizons, I was going old school. At the start of the first lockdown I was looking for something to help me when I was feeling stressed out as well as something to keep me occupied, so I ordered a second hand Nintendo DS and a few games. I spent most of the first lockdown playing Animal Crossing New World which I'd grown up playing (from 2005 - that made me feel old!) and then Jack bought me New Leaf for my birthday over Summer. Having been so obsessed with the other two games I really want to play New Horizons, as well as the new Super Mario game.
Okay, I promise this is my last "never going to happen" thing on my wishlist. I've always been a huge fan of Mulberry, having seen the bag on the catwalk growing up as a fashion obsessed pre-teen. I actually bought the Mulberry bag I always post on Instagram to celebrate my first Christmas making money. My current Mulberry bag is in Wintery colours, and while scrolling the other day I found my beloved bag but in a bright yellow! While to most people that might sound like more of a trend piece, you know how much I love yellow, so for me it's perfect! Even if you don't love yellow I would recommend looking at Mulberry's offerings if you're looking for an investment piece. I've had mine for a few years and it still looks brand new.
Comfy Pyjamas
This is obviously at the top of my wishlist this year. I'm used to spending a lot of time at home with my job but I always get dressed when I'm working. With Jack also being at home I've forced myself into having a lot more of a work-life balance, and that's made me realise that I'm seriously lacking comfy pyjamas. I prefer pyjamas with shorts to sleep in, but for hanging around the house I love something really soft and cosy, like these kigurumi for adults. They also have Pokemon kigurumi which my inner nerd absolutely loves!! With so much time being spent at home this Winter I think it's the perfect time to treat yourself or someone you care about to some luxurious pyjamas.
This is kind of a boring one but I love notebooks and stationery in general. As well as being a freelancer I do find that I'm one of those people that feels better when things are written down on paper. If I write anything on my phone it just doesn't seem to go in, but if I write the same thing on paper I pay attention - maybe it's because I think more about writing than typing, or because it's more visual/in my way but I'm really not sure! I use notebooks for everything from to-do lists and schedules to brainstorms and lists of ideas so I get through so many notebooks in the course of a year! I think we all love pretty things and notebooks are no exception. If you're looking for a gift then I would say getting a personalised notebook is the way to go, but for yourself just choose whatever makes you happy.
Skincare
I don't know about you, but between months of being at home and having to wear a mask when I go out, my skin is awful. I have the dreaded "mask-ne" as well as really bad dry patches, to the point that my skin is painful. One of the things I would love most this year is some amazing quality skincare to really help me fix and look after my skin. My eyes are also really sore from working on my laptop then watching TV or playing on the Playstation with Jack, as well as being inside with the heating on all the time. I'm considering treating myself to the best eyecream I've ever tried - the Kiehls Super Multi Correcting Eye Opening Serum. It's a long name but it's an absolute saviour! I also love the Caudalie foaming cleanser and divine oil - these have saved my skin multiple times over the years.
Trainers
This is kind of boring but for me it's essential. Ever since the first UK lockdown I've been walking several miles everyday. I'm not a big shoe collector and I only had one pair of trainers. I say "had" because they've totally fallen apart. The only other pair of shoes I have are ankle boots, and I can't go on the beach with these as they have a small heel on. I realise I could just buy any pair, but at the end of the day I want them to look good as well as be comfortable, and I just haven't found the perfect pair yet.
This is another thing that's kind of boring but I really want. I love my yellow coat, but it sadly had to be put away for the rest of the year a few weeks ago because it got so unbearably cold. I have an old winter coat from a few years ago but it's a little too big so it just isn't as warm as I need. I did buy one coat, but I ordered it in the wrong size and it was uncomfortably big. I have my eye on a few coats at the moment but I still haven't managed to make a decision. Story of my life!!
Hopefully this helps you if you're keeping an eye out for last minute Christmas presents or something to treat yourself to in the January sales. It's been a bit of a weird year, but at least we still have Christmas to look forward to.
Love and Feathers,
The Owlet 💜
