Welcome To 2017: Goals and Wishes

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!!!

I hope that you've enjoyed a lovely festive season - I can't believe how quick it's gone! If you saw my Year in Review post you will already know that 2016 was actually a pretty good year for me despite the fact that the latest social media trend seems to be to hate on the last year. I realise I talked a little bit about my goals in the previous post where Abbey tagged me, but I want to talk about it in more detail.

Since 2016 was so good for me, I wanted to share some of my goals and wishes for 2017. These are things that would be absolute dreams for me to do, as well as what I want to challenge myself to do in the next year.

Before we get to that, I have a bit of news. This morning (as I'm writing) I was woken up by my friend ringing to congratulate me.... for being a 2017 UK BLOG AWARDS FINALIST!!!! I absolutely cannot believe I've been shortlisted- your votes have meant everything to me so for that I have to say a huge thank you. Now let's get down to business.

Welcome To 2017: Goals and Wishes

MY 2017 GOALS:

1. Better Blog Photography

I feel like that's a kind of ironic goal when my day job is as a professional photographer, but blog photography is a different kettle of fish which couldn't be more different from what I do in work. It's really difficult to get photos of me because the only person who understands the way I think is Adam who works six days a week. I think I need to work on being more comfortable in front of a camera in order to get better photographs to show you. I would also like to work on the stereotypical flatlay because that is absolutely my nemesis.

2. Work on Confidence

As a blogger you have to have ridiculously thick skin. Something about putting your life on the internet makes people think that they have the right to criticise even the smallest detail and at times that can get so demoralising. Yes, I'm plus size, but this year is the year for me to embrace that. Over the last few months this has become more relevant so expect a lot more plus size fashion and self confidence posts in the next year. It's time to stop denying who I am and embrace it instead.

3. Better Time Keeping

I say this every year but I'm hopeless in the organisational department and really need to improve. I usually schedule one or two posts, write about what I fancy at the time rather than what I've got planned and never keep to schedule. However, this year I have a lot of travelling to do, collabs planned, some guest posts, lots of events and my final year of uni to contend with. I was reading a post by one of my friends who is the most organised person I know, so I'll definitely be taking a leaf out of her book.

4. Travel More

I've been lucky enough to travel quite a lot in 2016 but I've always travelled to the same places that I think of as my second home, but in 2017 I would love to spend more time travelling and to travel to places in the UK that I've never been before. I have some plans already so hopefully this will be a reality this year.

Welcome To 2017: Goals and Wishes

MY 2017 WISHES

Just a disclaimer here - I don't expect these to actually happen, but it would make my life if it did!

1. Take Part in a Blogger Photoshoot

I feel like a lot of my dreams are for "big bloggers" but I've always wanted to take part in a proper photoshoot. Like against a studio backdrop rather than in my garden. I feel like that's the badge of a "proper" blogger, but I just want to do it because it's such an amazing experience.

2. Be Featured in a Magazine

This is probably a pretty standard dream but I've bought every single issue of Blogosphere that's gone to print, and I'm forever jealous of the bloggers that get featured. Although I'd love to be featured in Blogosphere, I would actually just love to be featured in any magazine. I think when you spend all your time writing on the internet, to see your work in print is so special.

3. Take Part in a Plus Size Fashion Show

Ever since I was little I've gone to Bristol Fashion Week with my Mum every year, and I'm always jealous of the girls walking down the runway. I don't want to be up there with them though - I don't want to be the fat friend next to a party of cheerleaders. There's nothing body positive about that. I want to walk down a runway feeling and looking fabulous surrounded by other girls who understand how important body positivity is, and understand the message that you don't need to be skinny to be beautiful, and if I have to organise it myself to do so, then I'll find a way!

4. Write a Book

Now this is something I definitely don't think will happen in 2017, but I would love to write a book. I said before that seeing your work in print makes it special, but to have your own book would be even better. I would love to write something about being happy in your own skin, body confident, loving yourself the way you are and dressing for your shape. I absolutely don't think this would happen, but you never know - in a few years maybe.

5. Win An Award

I feel like this is such a realistic dream now, and that's so scary. I'm not trying to sound cocky thinking I'll definitely win Best Lifestyle Blogger at the Blog Awards this year, but the fact that I'm a finalist is absolutely incredible, and to actually win would probably make my decade, not just the year!

I realise that most of these wishes are never going to happen, and even the goals I have are more than aspirational, but 2016 has been the best year and my blog isn't even a year old. 2017 is going to be even bigger and better, so pardon me if I'm a little overly optimistic about this year.

Let me know what your goals and wishes are for 2017 in the comments below. I hope you have lots of things to look forward to!
