A Summer Barbecue

Hello Owlets!

Summer is amazing. You can go outside without piling on the layers, you have more free time now you've finished school or uni for the year, and the rain gets warmer! Seriously though - the British summer may be a laughing stock to pretty much everyone, but sometimes we do actually get a sunny day and it's important not to waste it. And yes, I'm well aware that there is no sunshine in any of my pictures, but we're British so not raining is good enough.

(thank you Stacey for modelling!)

A few weeks ago I was sat at home blogging when I got a random phone call telling me to meet my friends at the shops in an hour. I got there, and somewhere between putting on my makeup and walking to the shops it was decided that we'd have a barbecue. We didn't really have anything other than some salad and potato salad I'd prepared so we went shopping. We got a bag of chicken, sausages and burgers from Iceland for £3 which was amazing for something like this  - they're definitely worth a look if you're planing a get together. We bought some plates (they're football plates but we were too lazy to go to another shop!), some snacks and sauce and finally two disposable barbecues from PoundWorld. It's really worth looking around if you want to do something like this - I couldn't believe that you could get a disposable BBQ for £1!

We headed to a field near our home as we didn't want to cause a nuisance but wanted a picnic. We sat there and spent the afternoon cooking barbecue food, relaxing, snacking and listening to music. On a hot day it's all too tempting to sit inside in your air-conditioned lounge and watch Netflix (and I'm definitely guilty of this) but getting out into the fresh air, spending time with your friends and doing something different will always make you feel better than scrolling through Instagram.

The one issue with our plan was the actual cooking. Okay some of them were a bit *crisp* but we got the hang of it in the end and had a really lovely meal while sitting in the not-rain having a good old catch up!

So, maybe PoundWorld barbecues aren't the best invention that life has to offer and it would be easier to cook in an oven, but it was a great afternoon. If you see the sun come out while you're hiding behind your phone screen then use it to call a friend, grab a coffee, go shopping, take a walk or burn a few burgers on a pound-shop barbecue. Whatever you do, make the most of the summer because it won't be around forever!
