Welcome to The Owlet!!!

So as you can see I've had a go at this before and failed quite miserably. HOWEVER- I have missed my blog and feel it's time to revive it. This time with less of a focus on anything in particular. This blog will be my life and everything in it- what I'm cooking/eating, where I'm going, what I'm doing and of course, what products I'm loving!

As this is the first post on my shiny new blog, I feel some introductions are in order-

Who am I?

Hi, I'm Bex! A Bristolian photographer with a passion for makeup and an obsession with anything owl related. I love collecting vintage cameras and I'm mad for anything related to the 50s. I'm a part time pathetic vegetarian - in other words I eat chicken, bacon and fish but I eat vegetables like they're going out of fashion and love coming up with new recipes (I'm also a lazy healthy eater - get at me with the brown rice but kale smoothies are a definite no).

Where does your blog name come from?

As I mentioned, I'm obsessed with owls. A baby owl is called an owlet, and this is the nickname that my boyfriend has always called me. It also sounds a lot like "Outlet", and as I am the owlet and the blog is my outlet it only seems fitting.

Favourite Owl?

That question is too difficult, but perhaps if I had to pick one then it'd be a tawny, because they are stunning and are incredibly cute with their large eyes.

Favourite Memory?

My favourite memory definitely is this. I have been obsessed with owls for as long as I can remember but last year while I was in Cornwall with my family we found an owl sanctuary that offered owl handling experiences. I spent over an hour cuddling owls, feeding and flying them, and talking about each bird in turn. This was my favourite owl - Charlie, a European Eagle Owl. This was an amazing experience and for me it was a dream come true, but it only added fuel to the fire and I can't wait to do this again one day.

Favourite makeup item-

For me this is such a difficult question. I have oily skin so literally nothing stays on my face, and my tastes change so quickly that it's hard to keep up and choose just one.

Foundation - I have a complete love affair with the Loreal Infallible 24 Hour Matte (and breathe) liquid foundation. This is literally the only foundation that doesn't leave me looking like a grease ball after just a few hours.

Eyeliner- I am obsessed with winged eyeliner. I have worn it every day for around six years and admittedly my skills have improved but also my choice of products. I love the Collection 24 hour Extreme Liner. It's a felt tip and takes forever to dry out so it lasts around 3-4 months using it every day. The tip comes to a fine point which doesn't lose it's shape and it makes it easy to draw a wing in a few seconds. In my opinion this is a completely underrated product.

Other Bits- This week I tried my first ever liquid lipstick from Stila and I instantly understand what the hype is about. It stays on all day through eating, drinking and anything else. I only have "Birthday Suit" at the moment but I'm on the hunt for Moxie by MUA (forever out of stock for good reason!). I also jumped on the Nivea Post Shave Balm as primer bandwagon. Having pinched it from my boyfriend's washbag I was initially sceptical but it's incredible and annoyingly works better than my favourite primer. Perhaps not for someone without oily skin, but I've never had a full, uncakey face of makeup after 8 hours before.

Favourite Skincare-

I love Sudocreme. Such a weird thing to admit to using but I genuinely couldn't live without the spot-healing, redness-minimising super power. For a more conventional product I enjoy using the No7 Beautiful Skin Intense Hydration mask when my skin is dry to the point of being flakey, and this is a completely under hyped product that more people need to discover.

Favourite Camera-

As I mentioned, I love makeup but it's not the only love of my life. I collect vintage cameras, and without question my pride and joy is my Kodak Autographic 1A from 1913. It's the oldest camera I own and in my opinion it's also the most beautiful.

So that's it for my introduction. I would love to hear what you're into, what you like doing, what products you love and what you'd like to see next! If you have any questions leave them in the comments or catch up with me on my social media-
