Follow Me To: Weymouth in the Rain!

Morning Owlets!

If you follow me on Twitter you've probably been watching me complain that I need a holiday since about April (sorry about that). Well, we're in August now and between mine and Adam's schedules we've still not found a free weekend. However, we did find ourselves with a free day and decided to make the most of it with a trip to the seaside. When I say we made the most of it, believe me we did. We left at 7am which is earlier than I ever leave my bed normally, let alone the house, and got home at around 8:30 at night.

We got into Weymouth about 9am and went for a wander along the seafront before going to breakfast in a small cafe down one of the lanes. I'd never been to Weymouth before, and as Adam spent pretty much every summer there as a child he wanted to show me around.

The thing I love most about Weymouth are the lanes. They're small streets full of independent traders, selling everything from gifts to food and homeware. There were also a lot of people trading from stalls in the street, selling things like personalised necklaces where they would paint your name on a piece of pearl.

As we were in Weymouth with Adam's parents he disappeared off on a speed boat with his dad, and his mum and I went to investigate the aforementioned shops. She took me to a place called Brewers Quay. It's an antiques and craft market that's set up home in what used to be a brewery (hence the name). Inside, all of the stalls were split into little shops that had been built inside the main building selling things like antique cameras and handmade items. In one of the shops I found a gorgeous white Bardot style top with blue lace detail down the front which has since become one of my favourite outfits to wear when the sun is shining.

When Adam and his dad got back from the boat trip, we met up and did some more wandering. We went for lunch- of course we had to have fish and chips being at the seaside- then walked over to the beach. By this point it was getting cold and the rain clouds were threatening, but Adam's mad so went out on a pedalo, and of course I was very supportive and observed from dry land!

Now other than fish and chips, there is one thing that you can't go to the seaside without visiting - the arcade. Adam and I both grew up taking holidays in the U.K. (I've never been abroad) so for us, playing on the two penny slot machines was a hark back to our childhood. I'll admit that we probably spent the best part of two hours posting tuppences into the slots and shooting plastic ducks for tickets.  Eventually though, we did emerge from the arcade with our chosen prizes in tow.

On the way back to the car we got absolutely drenched in the freak rain storm that had been threatening to soak us all day. Okay the day we chose wasn't the sunniest, but we still had a great time. I think that even if you don't have time for a holiday, it's important to get out of the city even just for a few hours to be able to relax and take time away from your everyday life. We were only in Weymouth for about 12 hours, but being there even for that long gave me a burst of motivation when I got back to Bristol and allowed me time away from everything which gave me a fresh perspective when I went back to reality the next day.

Cheers Weymouth - much appreciated! While we couldn't fit every one of you in the car with us, I wanted to take you along so click above if you'd like to watch what we got up to that day.

If you've been lucky enough to escape for a holiday this year, where have you been? If you haven't, what would be your dream holiday destination? Let me know in the comments below.

P.S. I don't have a vlog to go up next week so I'll be doing my first EVER Q&A! Head to Twitter and tweet me using #AskTheOwlet if there's ever anything you wanted to know!
