5 European Adventure Holidays to try this Summer

Hey Owlets,

For almost a decade I've been exploring Europe to experience the wide variety of cultures across the continent. With diverse landscapes and rich histories, it doesn't matter which country (or countries!) you choose to visit, you'll have plenty of opportunities to experience something new. Whether you're seeking the sun, snow, or an adventure, there are so many incredible options for your European holiday in 2025. So if you're seeking inspiration for your 2025 travels, here are some of my personal recommendations for every kind of holiday in Europe this year.

Best Beach Holiday - Algarve, Portugal

If you’re dreaming of sun-kissed beaches, dramatic cliffs, and delicious seafood, then look no further than the Algarve, Portugal. Known for its stunning coastline, the Algarve region of Portugal is a haven for beach lovers. The Algarve offers award-winning sandy beaches, rugged coves, and crystal-clear waters, making it perfect for a relaxing beach holiday.

Head to Lagos to spend time exploring Portugal's rich history, or visit Albufeira if you're interested in a livelier atmosphere with plenty of nightlife options. One of the most picturesque spots in the Algarve is Benagil Cave. If you're looking for a sunny beach holiday, the Algarve remains a firm favourite for many travellers in search of a relaxing summer holiday in Europe.

Best Ski Holiday - Tignes, French Alps

For those seeking a sporty winter getaway, Tignes in the French Alps is an absolute must. This Tignes is part of one of the largest ski areas in Europe, offering some of the best slopes and snow conditions. Tignes offers over 300 km of slopes and a variety of runs for all skill levels.

Beyond skiing, Tignes is also known for its lively après-ski scene and beautiful alpine surroundings. To give you even more freedom, consider booking Tignes Transfers instead of renting a car. If you're not used to driving in snowy conditions, booking a transfer is a stress-free way to get to your holiday and start relaxing sooner.

Best City Break - Copenhagen, Denmark

For a city break filled with history, culture, and a mix of modern and vintage charm, Copenhagen is a must-visit in 2025. Known for its stunning architecture, beautiful canals, and range of attractions, Denmark’s capital is the perfect blend of old-world charm and contemporary cool, and an incredible place to spend a weekend city break (or longer, if you have the time!).

Start your day with breakfast in a restaurant on the historic Nyhavn harbour, followed by a visit to the famous Little Mermaid statue and enjoy exploring the nearby parks. Make sure you take a visit the incredible Tivoli Gardens - it's one of the oldest theme parks in Europe and is home to one of the oldest rollercoasters. Copenhagen is also renowned for its culinary scene, with a wide range of restaurants serving everything from traditional Danish dishes to innovative Michelin-starred cuisine. The city is easy to explore on foot or by bike, making it an ideal destination for a laid-back yet exciting city break.

Best Adventure Holiday - Tromsø, Norway

Whether you're hoping to dip your toe into adventure travel in 2025 or you are already accustomed to getting out of your comfort zone, Tromsø in Norway offers an unparalleled experience. This Arctic wonderland is the perfect place to witness the magic of the Northern Lights, go dog sledding with views of the mountains against the backdrop of barely-there light, or embark on a memorable rib tour to explore the rugged landscapes up close. Tromsø is also the gateway to some of the most remote and scenic parts of Norway, making it a fantastic destination for those seeking adventure and natural beauty.

Within the city you can take a cable car ride to the top of Mount Storsteinen for panoramic views, while further afield you can enjoy a thrilling snowmobile safari through the rugged terrain or try your hand at dog sledding. Tromsø’s unique location above the Arctic Circle offers endless opportunities for outdoor activities, making it the ultimate destination for thrill-seekers in 2025.

Best Road Trip - Transfagarasan Road, Romania

One of Europe’s most scenic (and at times, nerve-wracking) drives, the Transfagarasan Road in Romania should be on every road trip lover's 2025 travel bucket list. One of the longest roads in Romania, this winding path stretches through the Făgăraș Mountains, offering stunning views of snow-capped mountains, vast valleys, and crystal-clear lakes as you wind your way around the twists and turns that follow the natural curves of the landscape. Often referred to as “the best road in the world,” the Transfagarasan is an eye-opening experience for those who love adventurous travel at their own pace.

Along the way you'll find small towns, breathtaking castles and vibrant cities as you explore one of the longest roads in the country. With hairpin bends and steep ascents, dense forests, waterfalls, and valley views, the Transfagarasan offers an unforgettable journey through some of Europe’s most spectacular scenery.

No matter what kind of travel you enjoy, Europe is bursting with amazing destinations to visit in 2025. Whether you're looking for a relaxing beach break, an adrenaline-filled adventure, or a cultural city escape, these hand-picked locations are sure to make your travels unforgettable.
