There are huge benefits to playing games on your computer though - the main ones being that with a bigger screen and more processing power you can appreciate more of the subtle details in the game design, and it's often easier to play on a laptop because you can see what's going on without having to zoom in. Even playing checkers online is easier - when you're using a mouse to click instead of tapping the screen you can be more intentional with your moves and it greatly reduces the chance of making a mistake!

Take Up Photography

The world is changing so quickly - think about how things changed overnight in 2020. Life still hasn't gone back to normally fully, even in 2024. Things have changed permanently, so why not document the evolving world? Capture the moments that mean something to you with your new hobby – photography! You don’t need a professional camera as the one on your phone will work perfectly if you're only taking photos for yourself and social media.

Go outside and find what interests you. It might be trees, animals or the urban jungle that makes up the city around you. With fewer people walking around, the world really is your oyster to go and explore with your photography.

Get Creative with YouTube

Sign up to YouTube and create your own channel - all you need is your phone to get started. You can talk about anything - just think about your interests are and things that you could easily talk about. If you need a bit of inspiration on specific videos to create, you can think about what questions your audience might have about your chosen topic. You could even try Googling your chosen topic for suggestions - just look at the search suggestions to give you some topic ideas.

Write about what you know. If you’re a singer write about that, your experiences; equally, if you build aircraft and can see what’s going to happen in the future, lean on your knowledge and you’ll be surprised at where it can lead.

Take Up Digital Painting
We’ve all had a go with a paintbrush and canvas at one time in our lives. While some people love it and find it relaxing, others just don’t find it exciting enough.

So, add some flair to those lines and angles with digital painting. By using a computer programme, you’ll be able to choose whatever colour and brush style you like and work your way through loads of scenes and portraits, either from your own imagination or from life. Move over Picasso.

Learn How to Play an Instrument

Try tickling the ivories or have a toot on a trombone for your next fun activity. Picking up an instrument online has never been easier either, with so many available to order or pick up on auction websites

Then sign up to a course online, or find a teacher that works remotely. You’ll be smashing out tunes and playing your favourite songs and even joining a band well before the year is out.

Join online communities

Whether it’s movie-making or digital painting or scriptwriting there’s a community or forum out there waiting for you to join. No matter how niche your ideas are, someone else has had similar aspirations; and if all of the above is not for you and you’re stuck for ideas, ask the forum as that is what they are there for.

There are always great things online, new ways to spend your time. So why not give the world the benefit of your opinion: After all there can never be too many funny cat videos.
