Hey Owlets,

I don't know about you, but I'm feeling 22..... sorry, had to do that!
I originally wasn't planning to do a birthday post this year, but I ended up having such a great time that I really wanted to share it with you. So here we go - here's what I got up to for my 22nd birthday (and pretty much a week around that).

The day before my birthday, I met up with my friend Cam for another working lunch together. I have to be honest, I wasn't in the mood to do a lot of work so we ended up chatting for a few hours over lunch and coffee, and typing the odd word so I felt like I'd achieved something. This is something I've been doing quite regularly recently and getting out the house and meeting other freelancers really helps me get motivated (although not on that day obviously!). I did have plans to go to a blog event in the evening, but I managed to get heatstroke just in time for my birthday so I went home to soothe the sunburn and drink lots of water instead!

I'm sure my whole birthday this year was about food. Dad was busy on the morning of my birthday, so Mum took the day off, and she suggested going somewhere for the morning. I know it's a pretty boring thing for most people, but one of my favourite things to do in summer is to go up to Starbucks at Aztec West and have a coffee in the sunshine, looking over the lake. It's definitely one of those things that counts as a simple pleasure. Mum offered to take me for breakfast while Dad was out, but I just wanted to sit in the sun and relax so we ended up having a Starbucks breakfast.

I really wasn't kidding when I said my whole birthday was food on food on food. When Dad got back we decided to go for a late lunch at Cafe Rouge in the mall. I was kind of sad because they've changed the menu - it's still nice but it wasn't as good as it used to be so I wouldn't go back. However, it was nice to get to spend some time with Mum and Dad without a phone glued to any of us.

My birthday was absolutely packed this year. Unfortunately I don't have a decent photo to share with you (I blame my friend for buying me a birthday glass of wine!), but I do have a cringey selfie for you to laugh at. In the evening we were invited to a family friend's yearly award ceremony for their community group, so we got dressed up and went to support them. It was awesome as always - I felt like I'd been thrown a birthday party, and you can bet I made use of the disco (you'll be glad there's no photos, I can't dance).

The day after my birthday is hands down my favourite day of my birthday weekend-ish. If you've been following The Owlet for a while, then you'll know where the name came from, but long story short it's because I absolutely love owls. So, for my birthday Mum and Dad arranged for me to spend the day flying owls, which in itself was amazing. However, when she brought out an eagle owl, I just about held it together. They're my absolute favourite breed, so getting to fly such a beautiful creature made my month. Seriously, have you ever seen a girl so happy to have inch-long talons aimed straight at her face?

Sunday was sort of my birthday over, but it was one of my favourite BSR events of the year, so I was just as excited as that as I was for my birthday. Every year a local retirement home holds a cream tea in their garden, which also just so happens to have a mini railway going around the garden. Yes, it's kind of meant for children but most of the BSR family go by mental age rather than physical, so that means we're young enough. We don't really do a lot there, which means we spend the whole afternoon eating cake, sunbathing and riding around the garden on a model railway pretending we're 10 years old. Not a bad way to volunteer really!

I've got to be honest, on Monday I had a massive lie in after an incredible weekend. Thank you to everyone who was kind enough to send me a message on any of my social media- one of the best parts about being a blogger is how supportive everyone is of everything I do. Also thank you to my in-person friends for making my birthday weekend so special, I really appreciated it!

If you've not seen my previous birthday post where I talked about how I've grown in the last year, then make sure you have a read, and I'll chat to you soon!
