Follow Me To: Dinner at the Italian Embassy!

Ciao Gusto on Ocado Italian Food Week

Hey Owlets,

I feel like I've said this to you before but it doesn't get any less true each time - I know that I'm very lucky to be where I am as a blogger but there are occasions where I feel like "Someone pinch me" because no way can these amazing opportunities have come from chatting rubbish on the internet.

But again this year I have something incredible to share with you - a trip to the Italian Embassy in London (I know, I think I've peaked!). Last week we were invited for dinner with the ambassador and Ciao Gusto to celebrate Italian Food Week, as well as a year of Ciao Gusto being in the UK. If you don't know what that is, it's a collection of small Italian brands, like San Benedetto who make the best iced tea I've ever tasted,  that got together to sell their products on Ocado in the UK.

The outside of the building is unassuming with a stone porch, and I never could've prepared for what was inside - everything was drenched in gold and there was marble in every direction I looked; I must've spent the entire evening with my mouth hanging open in awe of the opulence of everything. I feel like I could've spent a lot longer there and would've been the same, it was absolutely beautiful! Although it was kind of like attending a reception in a museum, as the scary Italian lady shouted "the table!!" when I put my phone down to put my name badge on - after that I didn't dare touch anything!!

As if visiting the embassy itself wasn't enough, I nearly dropped my glass of prosecco from shock as Ambassador Terracciano strolled past me, stepping onto the stage to give a speech. I didn't really get a chance to speak to him but it was incredible to meet someone so influential.

After the speeches they put out the buffet, and I have to say it was some of the best food I've ever eaten. In true Italian fashion there wasn't a lot if you chose to be vegan or vegetarian, but I'm neither so I had a great evening enjoying all my favourite foods, including this incredible plate of Parma ham, salami, chorizo and marinated anchovies. I'd eaten so much that I ended up feeling a little ill and needed to sit down. As I sat there, we were handed the most delicious cherry ice cream I have ever tasted from a brand called Valsioa.

Sitting in the beautiful sideroom with a food baby in tow I was offered a coffee - being Italian, I should've expected it to be strong, but nothing could've prepared me for the rocket fuel I was given! If you like strong coffee then I'm sure it would've been lovely, but I'm definitely more of a latte kind of girl. Further coffee endeavours in the form on tiramisu, however, were very well received despite the fact I needed a nap to sleep off all the amazing food that I'd (over) indulged in.

I have to say a massive massive thank you to the Ciao Gusto team for inviting me, it was an absolute honour to get to visit somewhere as special as the Italian Embassy. If you'd like to try any of their products, they're all available on Ocado here - as for me, I've already ordered several bottles of my favourite tea!
