How to Create a Luxe Bedroom

The bedroom in your home serves an extremely important purpose – or, rather, several of them. It’s not only the space where you’ll sleep, but also where you’ll relax more generally. If the decor doesn’t put you at ease from the moment you enter the room, then the chances are that you won’t be able to relax as you ideally could.

For many, getting the vibe right is a matter of investing in a few luxury touches. But exactly what are they?

The main event

The bed is the most important item in the room. You’ll want to ensure that yours is large enough to meet your needs – but not so large that it swamps the space. You’re going to be spending at least eight hours a day lying on this piece of furniture, and the quality of the time you spend there will impact the quality of your waking life, too. Get a bed that you feel comfortable in.

Of course, for many, a king-size bed, or even a superking, will represent the ideal. As well as being comfortable, your bed should ideally look luxurious when it’s all dressed up.

Bedding

The bed itself is just one part of the equation when it comes to sleep. You’ll also need to think about the pillows, mattress, and quilts. Make sure that you understand the tog rating system, and that you aren’t going to end up sweaty in the night. You can always pile blankets on top of a thinner quilt. Bear in mind also that feather and down pillows can be a great deal softer and more luxurious than many of the alternatives.

Setting the mood

Generating the right vibe often means getting the lighting right. If you’re looking to relax, then going for hues that approximate firelight might be appropriate. These are the warm tones that our minds naturally crave. Programmable LED strips can accent certain areas, and make a big impression – but resist the urge to turn the space into an animated light show.

Accessories

Getting the most from your space often means leaning into certain luxurious accessories. This might mean looking at a few rugs, or wall-mounted shelving to free up space at floor level. You might dress your windows using high-end curtains, or even commission something bespoke for your wardrobe space. The options are endless – so think about what’s going to work best for you!
