How to create a cosy bedroom during winter

Spending time in a warm and cosy bedroom during the winter month is a really lovely feeling. It can be a place you can relax during the evening or enjoy a long lie-in on a cold morning. Your bedroom should be somewhere you feel totally at home, which reflects your style while being practical. Below are some tips to help you create that cosy bedroom you’ve always wanted.

By using rugs, both on the floor or a bed throw, you’re getting several benefits. Firstly, you’re adding another layer of texture to your room. By adding a rug to your floor, you can change the feel underfoot even if you have carpet installed. During the winter months, a fluffy or a thicker texture rug will work well. You can also consider a festive pattern to help bring some different design themes into your bedroom, a room which is often forgotten about when it comes to Christmas decorations.

For your bed, a rug helps to add another layer to keep your warm when the nights are cold. Drape it across the foot of your bed for easy access when you need it. Again, you can bring in different textures, with traditional wool, or different colour combinations to add a seasonal twist to your bedding.

The Right Flooring

The flooring in your bedroom is really important. You want a floor that will be warm underfoot for those cold winter mornings when you first step out of bed, but that will also look great and is easy to maintain. While carpet is a common choice in most bedrooms, vinyl has several significant advantages. It is naturally warm underfoot and if you’re looking to make your bedroom even warmer with the addition of underfloor heating vinyl will work brilliantly in allowing the heat through.

Luxury vinyl flooring allows you to have beautiful floors which fit your style. There are various options, including stone and wood effects which can be installed in traditional or modern patterns. For a cosy bedroom, a wood effect can give you a log cabin feel, particularly if you have wooden furniture pieces. Vinyl is also straightforward to clean and highly durable when compared to carpet, so you can keep your bedroom floor looking its best for longer.

Ideal for creating low light environments, candles make a great addition to any bedroom. You can experiment with different scents, and particularly during winter months there are some fantastic options available. However, if you don’t like introducing scents into your bedroom, you can still do a lot with candles.

Depending on the amount of space you have available, it may be better to go with one large one, with multiple wicks, or dot smaller tea lights around your room to create some fantastic lighting. A room which has a gentle light source, such as candles, not only makes it feel cosy but can also help you destress after a long day.

As with rugs, adding more fabric to your room can help give it a cosier feel. If you’re really looking to reduce the amount of light in your room in the evenings, it may be worth considering blackout curtains. The fabric and colour you use for your curtains will play a big role in how they fit into your room, so it’s important to take your time and decide on the best option for your taste.

These are not the only things you can do to your bedroom to make it feel cosy during the winter months, so if you have any tips of your own feel free to share them in the comments section!
